Fans of Johnny Hallyday should be more than happy ! Friday 22 may 2020, RTL has booked a very nice surprise. The radio station has unveiled a song that the rocker had recorded in 1968 and which had been completely forgotten.
While Universal Music is preparing a new set dedicated to Johnny Hallyday, and exclusively to the year 1969, The Night with me was discovered during the listening of the tapes used for the recording of River… open your own bed, the eleventh album of the singer, released in 1969.
“There is a sense of mystery that no one discovered this song today, he explained to RTL Xavier Perrot, the head of artistic catalogue Hallyday at Universal who found the piece in the middle of the track. At the time we had vinyl records which were only 20 minutes per side. Therefore, at any given time, there is a choice to make…”
The Night with me is a song 100% authentic, which is reminiscent of the late 60’s. The title unheard lasts a little more than 3 minutes 30, and is not only because of the voice of Johnny, but also of those of the british engineers who have worked with him. Comments are audible at the beginning and the end. “It really left the recording the most crude possible. It was mixed well, obviously respecting the colors of the album : bass, drums, guitar. Something very rock. It is surrounded by wonderful musicians,” said Xavier Perrot in RTL.
At this time, it has still not managed to identify the lyricist and the composer of The Night with me : “It was a long investigation to find them. It was Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, two English of the group Small Faces. And, to this day, we still have not found the adapter. The Sacem has looked into its archives, ( … ), and they have not found.”
One thing is for sure, never a new Johnny Hallyday had thus resurfaced since his death on December 5, 2017. The Taulier is dead in his house in Marnes-la-Coquette (Hauts-de-Seine), a lung cancer that is widespread. He was 74 years of age.
The Night with me that will appear in the box Johnny 69 to be released on may 29, 2020, which will cover a photo of Johnny with a headband, signed Tony Frank.
